Hi everyone! Even though it's my favourite month, I am happy to leave February and move into March. Spring is just around the corner and summer not far away. Reunion: July29 -31, 2011.
A few things have been set in place for our 'event' in the summer. Mel has a hold on a spot in the Sydney Mines Legion for Friday night. We can start things off with a supper that they have every Friday night. The menu is 'real' fish and chips and another choice for those who don't like fish. They also have a kids menu. All are reasonably priced. We can have a 'meet and greet' type event after this with some entertainment or whatever you'd like. (Please make suggestions.)
Saturday afternoon we'll be going to a park the Sydney Mines Legion has in the Boularderie area. We'll spend a fun-filled afternoon and evening there with games, a barbecue, fireworks, or whatever (again suggestions are welcome).
On Sunday we hope to make a day trip to Ingonish for a picnic at the beach. Hopefully the weather will cooperate and if not we'll have to come up with a Plan B (again, suggestions...)
It would be great if everyone could reply to this or send me an e-mail before the end of March to let me know if you are coming or with suggestions or ideas for events or games or whatever. Actually, if you could do that by then, Brenda and I would appreciate it so we can have an idea of what's what. I think we will also have to charge a nominal fee so we can purchase prizes, fireworks, marshmallows, etc.
So cousins, it would be nice to get together again to see everyone. Once I have an idea of numbers attending, I'll post again to let you know what's new with the 'Wilkie Reunion Two'. Take care, Marlene

Seven months and counting!
It's almost time to say good-bye to 2010 and for some of us it's been a bittersweet year. We'll miss Daddy (Bill) and Georgie...they were a big part of our family and I know they would have been eager participants at our reunion. We must make remembering them and all other family members we've lost a special part of our reunion.
Some plans are slowly coming together...but I need your input. You should be getting an attachment of e-mail addresses soon along with this blog address and I would like it if you would respond to a few questions. First of all, we'll need some money for rentals and other things, so how much money do you think would be ok to ask as a 'donation' to the cause? Is twenty per person too much? Please advise. Also, what do you think of a family picnic in Ingonish on that last Sunday? Would you like a family mass ? Do you want to invite others? Like the Fougere's? Would a wine and cheese be ok for Friday evening or would you like to do something else like a family bowling event? Should we leave Saturday morning open and look at spending the afternoon and evening together? Would a barbecue or potluck be ok here? Should we book some entertainment? Can we incorporate some fun children's activities - maybe a family contest of some sort? How about a karaoke contest? Need to know ages of children attending too I guess...Anyhow, I'd like to hear from you. Let me know your plans and your ideas and wishes. Happy New Year to all and the very best for 2011...Love to all, Marlene

Sixty-one days til 2011
Hi Folks. Sorry it's been so long since I've posted, but there it is... I've been a bit busy. Just wanted to mention that if you are not among the 'lucky ones' who have a place to stay for the reunion then I might mention a few places you might try. The majority of time for the reunion weekend will be spent on the Northside, of course, so you might try the North Star Inn or the good old Clansman. In Sydney, there's the Delta, Cambridge Suites, Comfort Inn, Days Inn, and a place called Spanish Bay Inn, among others.Right now we're not sure of what Sunday may bring, but we will keep you posted. If you have any suggestions, please pass them on.
Thanks to everyone for your prayers and condolences...Marlene

300 days and counting down...
Hi everyone, it's a little less than a year until we meet here on the Island to remember old times and make new memories. I thought I'd put together this blog at the 'one year' point of the countdown to get you ideas, suggestions, and feedback as to how you'd like to see this reunion weekend unfold. I'm hoping you will have lots to say because it would be nice to have an action-packed-but-spot-for-quiet-time visit with our rather big family. The reunion will take place at various places on the Northside on the 29,30,31 of July 2011. You send your ideas by responding to or posting a comment to this blog. Hopefully this blog will get better as I get more practise. I hope to post something every two weeks or so until the new year and then maybe more frequently. Pictures may also be included as I get better at this...can you tell this is my first blog yet?...So mark your calendars and make plans to come to Cape Breton next summer for the Wilkie Reunion - Remix. Until next time...Marlene
